This is an image of a real estate firm that I took.
The firm occupies what used to be a general store.
The building is stucco, painted white with a warm gray accent.
They removed the stucco from the east side. I don't know why.
Taking walks in the afternoon has been nice, lately. But when the air is bad, I don't.
I've been anticipating the cooler weather for some time now.
It's been helpful to keep my mind off the whole employment === null evaluating to true thing I have going on.
I have an interview this afternoon. No expectations, but hey, it is something to do.
On the walks I like to listen to podcasts. Some of them I like are: The Dave Chang Show, The Offerings from Changelog, Good Food by Evan Kleiman, and Articles of Interest.
I keep finding meaning in the titles for these posts.
If you haven't noticed, they are lines from a Radiohead song.
Broken banches. Lol.
I've had a few in my time.
The Dave Chang Show
The host is the eponymous Dave Chang.
He is a famous chef.
His co-host is Chris Ying.
He is not a famous chef.
Chris Ying makes me laugh sometimes and makes me sad sometimes. A good kind of sad. Like when you remember your Grandmother who has passed away. I like him.
The two of them talk about failure. They talk about how painful failure is.
And about how when someone has experienced failure, they will avoid experiencing pain by never trying again.
My favorite quote from the show is, and I am paraphrasing:
"Whatever made you successful in the past, will not make you successful in the future"
The above to examples have changed my perspective on a few things:
If you try, you almost always will fail, you will almost always experience pain. Understanding that is critical to self-growth.
I use that pain as motivation so I never fail again.
But, I often do.
And that is okay.
Understanding that hasn't lessened the pain of failure.
It has shown me pain is an inevitability.
And weirdly enough, knowing that helps me bounce back.
Life is a sisyphean endeavor.
The next time I try, I may fail.
But I'll change.
But if I don't fail, I'll still change.
Because there is more failure ahead.
Whatever made me successful in the past, will not make me successful in the future.
The Changelog
The Changelog is a suite of podcasts discussing everything software related.
Some of the shows I like are JS Party and the Changelog.
JS Party does interviews and deep dives with some awesome folks.
They discuss things like TypeScript, JS frameworks, careers, and a bunch of other fun stuff.
It is my main source of news for everything software.
Love it. 10/10. Can't recommend it enough.
Good Food by Evan Kleiman
Where to even begin.
Evan Kleiman is incredible.
Evan has hosted Good Food since 1997. They are a chef, restauranter, author, and an incredible interview
They feature interviews with authors who are publishing new material, chefs, and restaurateurs.
They discuss myriad topics and how they relate back to food. And at the end of the show, they have a reporter visit Farmers Markets in Los Angeles.
I don't live in Los Angeles. But I love hearing about it.
One thing I loved to listen to was Evan discussing her home kitchen setup.
It was elegantly austere: a toaster over, a table, and fridge in the other room.
And she gets by.
I like to think I echo that philosophy in my own life and the tools that I use.
A welder and an angle grinder have taken me a long way in my life.
I'm writing this on a Logitech K120. It is wired. So is my mouse.
You take what you have and you make it work.
And you invest in what you need to take you the farthest and fastest.
I feel that way about git sometimes.
I do everything on the command line.
Articles of Interest
Articles of Interest started its life as a mini series of the absolute podcast GOAT, 99% Invisible.
It is hosted by Avery Trufelman.
They discuss clothing and how it relates to humans.
It is one of the podcasts from left field that I love because it connects me to ideas I had no clue existed.
You don't know what you don't know.
And that is my favorite stuff to learn about.
This is the end.
A little site update down here at the bottom.
There's a signup form for the website now.
Once you've signed up you can login and send me feedback if you want to.
I'd like it if you did.
It's pretty standard stuff.
Controlled form components.
Astro Islands.
Authenticated Requests.
Comments will come soon enough.
I think I might do some Three.js work for the next post though.
Maybe build some type of easter egg mini game.
